  • Dhiraj is from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. His father is Bommadevara Shravan Kumar who used to work with the Archery Association of India. Dhiraj was a student at SRR and CVR Government Degree College in Vijayawada. He began training in archery at Volga Archery Academy in 2006. He was recruited to the Army as a Havaldar in 2021, after four years of training at the Army Sports Institute in Pune. He is supported by Olympic Gold Quest.
Career
  • Dhiraj was part of the Indian contingent at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. He went on to win  in the men’s recurve team event—alongside Atanu Das and Tushar Shelke—after losing in the final to the South Korean team.
  • In 2023, he is competing in the World Championships in Berlin, Germany, in team, individual, and mixed events; he took part in the World Cups in Antalya. He won two bronze medals in team and individual events at the World Cup Stage 3 held at Medellin, Colombia. He appeared in the World Cup at Hermosillo in September 2023.
  • In January 2022, he got the better of Tokyo Olympian Tarundeep Rai to win a ranking tournament in Hyderabad. Earlier in 2021, he had won bronzes in individual events at World Cups in Guatemala City and Paris.
  • Dhiraj finished fourth in the men’s individual ranking round with an overall score of 681 at the 2024 Paris Olympics. This helped the Indian men’s team finish third, while the mixed team with Ankita Bhakat finished in fifth place in the ranking rounds.

2. Tarundeep Rai:

Career
  • At only 19 years old, Rai made his international debut during the 2003 Asian Archery Championship held in Yangon, Myanmar. He became the first Indian to win an individual silver medal when he competed at the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou on November 24th 2010.
  • In addition, he won bronze as part of India’s team at the 15th Asian Games held in Doha back in 2006. Other than being a flag bearer at the 2004 Athens Olympics, Rai scored 647 points placing him 32nd among men’s individual ranking rounds.
  • In the first round of 18 though, Alexandros Karageorgiou from Greece eliminated him by scoring 147 against his 143 resulting to finishing 43rd overall. He was also part of the Indian men’s archery team that positioned itself 11th within those games.

3. Pravin Ramesh Jadhav:

  • Jadhav made his international debut for India at the 2016 Asia Cup Stage 1 held in Bangkok, whereby he won a bronze medal in the men’s recurve team event. He also participated in the 2016 Archery World Cup stage held in Medellín as a member of the Indian B team.
  • The biggest win of Jadhav’s career came in the 2019 World Archery Championships. Besides teammates Atanu Das and Tarundeep Rai, Jadhav was in the Indian men’s recurve team that reached the final for the first time since 2005.
  • The team got past sixth-seeded Canada in the knockout stage before beating third-seeded Chinese Taipei and hosts Netherlands in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively. It finally settled for a silver medal following defeat at the hands of China in the final.
