- Qualification : Bachelor’s degree or higher in ECE, IT, CS or MCA.
- Minimum years of relevant experience: Fresher – Any Internship in software development would be good to have.
- Java programming skills, Web technologies, knowledge and development experience, primarily on UNIX / Linux platform.
- software development experience in (Java, Groovy, JavaScript, extjs, Multithreading, JIRA) .
- Good to have – Knowledge/Exp of Enable tool and skills on any RDBMS, preferably on SQL.

Interview Questions and Answers for Automation Engineer Role – Ericsson
1. Tell me about yourself.
“My name is [Your Name], and I recently completed my Bachelor’s degree in [Your Branch – ECE/IT/CS] from [Your College]. I have a strong interest in automation and software development. I’ve done academic projects in Java and Python and completed an internship where I worked on automating simple tasks using shell scripts on a Linux platform. I enjoy solving problems and learning new tools. That’s why I’m excited about this opportunity at Ericsson where I can apply my knowledge and also grow as a professional.”
2. What do you understand by automation in software development?
“Automation in software development means using scripts, tools, and software to perform tasks without manual effort. This helps save time, reduces errors, and increases efficiency. For example, instead of testing software manually every time, we can create automated test cases. Similarly, tasks like data extraction, report generation, and deployments can also be automated. In a telecom environment like Ericsson, automation can make network operations faster and more reliable.”
3. What programming languages are you comfortable with?
“I am most comfortable with Java as I have used it in several projects. I also have some experience with Python and JavaScript. In Java, I’ve worked on object-oriented concepts, data structures, and simple applications. I’ve used JavaScript for building small websites and user interfaces. During my internship, I explored shell scripting on UNIX and basic SQL to work with databases. I’m open to learning any new language if needed for the role.”
4. What is multithreading in Java and why is it useful?
“Multithreading in Java means executing multiple parts of a program at the same time using separate threads. This is useful when we want to improve the performance of applications, especially when they are doing multiple tasks like downloading data, processing files, or handling user requests. In one of my projects, I used multithreading to process multiple files simultaneously, which saved a lot of time compared to running them one by one.”
5. Do you have any experience with UNIX or Linux?
“Yes, I’ve worked on Linux during my internship. I used it to run scripts, manage files, and automate system tasks. I’m comfortable with using the terminal, writing basic shell scripts, setting permissions, and running cron jobs. I also learned how to troubleshoot errors using logs. I enjoy working in a Linux environment because it gives more control and is widely used in server-side systems.”
6. What is your understanding of web technologies?
“I have basic knowledge of web technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I have created simple web pages and forms. I also learned about ExtJS and how it helps in building rich user interfaces. In one college project, I developed a basic dashboard using HTML and JavaScript, and connected it to a back-end using Java. I’m keen to improve these skills further if I get the chance to work on web-based automation at Ericsson.”
7. Have you worked with any automation tools or platforms?
“I have not worked with major tools like Enable yet, but I have used basic automation techniques like writing test scripts, shell scripting, and using online automation platforms for testing and data processing. I understand the logic behind task automation and can quickly learn tools like Enable or Jenkins if given proper guidance. I am eager to get hands-on experience with professional tools used in large-scale environments like Ericsson.”
8. How do you manage security and documentation when working on automation projects?
“Security and documentation are very important in automation projects. I make sure to protect sensitive information like passwords, user IDs, and tokens using environment variables or secure storage. I also write clear documentation that includes setup steps, usage, limitations, and troubleshooting tips. This helps other team members understand and use the automation solution easily. At Ericsson, I would follow the same principles and share updates with relevant teams as required.”
9. Are you familiar with telecom networks or systems?
“I have a basic understanding of mobile telecom networks. I know that the network is divided into parts like the core network, radio access network (RAN), and user equipment. These components work together to provide services like voice and data. I’ve also studied some network protocols and architectures during my coursework. I may not be an expert, but I’m very interested in telecom and would love to learn more on the job.”
