interview questions and answers for the role of Executive | Manual QA Testing, Automated QA Testing
1. Tell me about yourself.
Answer:
I am a recent graduate with a background in computer science (or related field). I have completed training in manual and automated testing. I am good at writing test cases, finding bugs, and understanding the software development life cycle. I also have basic knowledge of tools like JIRA and SQL. I enjoy learning and working in a team, and I am excited to start my career in QA testing.
2. What is software testing and why is it important?
Answer:
Software testing is the process of checking if a software application works as expected. It helps to find bugs or errors before the product goes live. Testing is important because it ensures that the software is reliable, secure, and performs well, which improves user satisfaction and trust in the product.
3. What is the difference between manual testing and automated testing?
Answer:
In manual testing, we test the application by hand. We check screens, click buttons, and enter data to see if everything works.
In automated testing, we use tools like Selenium to write scripts that do the testing for us. Manual testing is good for simple or short-term tasks, while automation is better for repetitive and long-term testing.
4. What are test cases and test scenarios?
Answer:
A test case is a set of steps with input, action, and expected result to test a specific part of the software.
A test scenario is a high-level idea of what to test, such as “check login feature”.
Test cases are more detailed, while test scenarios give a general direction.
5. What is a bug or defect?
Answer:
A bug or defect is a mistake or error in the software that causes it to work differently from what is expected. It can be a wrong output, a crash, or a missing feature. Testers find and report bugs so developers can fix them before the product is released.
6. What is the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)?
Answer:
SDLC is the step-by-step process used to build software. The main steps are:
-
Requirement gathering
-
Design
-
Development
-
Testing
-
Deployment
-
Maintenance
Testers are involved in the testing phase, but in Agile teams, they can be part of every phase.
7. What is the Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC)?
Answer:
STLC is the process followed during software testing. It includes:
-
Requirement analysis
-
Test planning
-
Test case design
-
Test environment setup
-
Test execution
-
Test closure
Each step helps to ensure the software is properly tested and ready for release.
8. Which tools have you used for testing?
Answer:
I have used tools like:
-
JIRA for tracking bugs and project tasks.
-
Selenium for writing automation scripts.
-
Postman for API testing.
-
SQL to check data in the database.
I am also open to learning new tools as needed.
9. What is Agile and how is testing done in Agile?
Answer:
Agile is a way of developing software in small parts called sprints (1-2 weeks). In Agile, testing happens continuously during development.
Testers work closely with developers and business teams. It helps to find and fix bugs faster and deliver better quality software.
10. How do you handle bugs you find?
Answer:
When I find a bug, I:
-
Recheck it to confirm it’s real.
-
Record the steps to reproduce it.
-
Take screenshots or logs if needed.
-
Report it using tools like JIRA.
-
Work with the developer to fix it.
-
Retest the fixed bug to make sure it’s resolved.
11. What is regression testing?
Answer:
Regression testing means testing the software again after changes (like bug fixes or new features) to make sure the old features still work correctly. It helps to make sure that nothing is broken after updates.
12. What is the difference between severity and priority?
Answer:
-
Severity shows how serious the bug is. (e.g., App crashes = High severity)
-
Priority shows how quickly the bug should be fixed. (e.g., Minor spelling mistake = Low severity but might be High priority if on home page)
Both help the team decide what to fix first.
13. What is a test plan?
Answer:
A test plan is a document that explains what to test, how to test, who will test, and when to test. It also includes what tools will be used, what is in-scope or out-of-scope, and the risks. It helps the whole team stay organized.
14. What challenges do you face in testing?
Answer:
Some common challenges are:
-
Incomplete or unclear requirements
-
Last-minute changes
-
Time limits for testing
-
Communication gaps between teams
To solve these, I ask questions, keep good notes, and work closely with my team.
15. Why do you want to work at Deloitte?
Answer:
Deloitte is a well-known company that offers a great learning environment and works on innovative projects. I want to grow my skills, learn from experts, and build a long-term career. I also like how Deloitte supports diversity and personal development.
