interview questions and answers for the Junior Engineer Intern role at Cornerstone in Hyderabad
1. Tell me about yourself.
Answer:
I am currently pursuing my B.Tech in [Your Branch] and will graduate in 2025. I have a strong interest in software testing and web development. I have some basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I also learned about automation tools like Selenium and programming languages like Java and Python. I am looking for an internship where I can learn more about testing and grow my skills, and this Junior Engineer role at Cornerstone seems like a great opportunity.
2. Why do you want to work in Quality Engineering (QE) or Testing?
Answer:
I enjoy finding problems and improving the quality of software. Testing is very important because it helps make sure the product works well before it reaches users. I also like writing test scripts and automating test cases. QE gives me a chance to work on both technical and problem-solving skills, and I believe it is a great career path for someone like me who wants to grow in software development and testing.
3. What is automation testing?
Answer:
Automation testing is the process of using software tools to run tests on applications automatically. Instead of checking everything manually, automation helps us test faster and more accurately. Tools like Selenium or Cypress can be used to write test scripts that test the website or software regularly. It saves time and is very useful when we need to test the same thing many times.
4. Do you know any automation testing tools?
Answer:
Yes, I have some knowledge of Selenium. I understand how to write test scripts in Java using Selenium WebDriver. I have also read about Cypress and Playwright. These tools help test the user interface and functionalities of web applications. I would like to learn more and practice writing real-time test cases during the internship.
5. What is the difference between manual testing and automation testing?
Answer:
Manual testing is when a tester checks the software manually without using any tools. They test each feature by clicking and checking everything.
Automation testing is when we write code or scripts to test the software automatically. This is faster and more reliable for repeated testing. Manual testing is useful for small or new features, but automation is better for big projects and frequent testing.
6. What do you know about TestRail?
Answer:
TestRail is a tool used to manage test cases and track test results. It helps testers organize their test plans, write test cases, and see which tests passed or failed. It also helps teams work together and makes it easy to report bugs or issues to developers. I am interested in learning how to use it properly during the internship.
7. Can you explain what is an API and what is API testing?
Answer:
An API (Application Programming Interface) is like a bridge that allows different software systems to talk to each other. For example, when a mobile app asks for your account details from the server, it uses an API.
API testing is checking if this communication works correctly. We test if the data sent and received is correct, secure, and fast. Tools like Postman or REST Assured are used for this type of testing.
8. What is a front-end automation framework?
Answer:
A front-end automation framework is a set of tools and rules that help testers write test scripts to check the user interface (UI) of a web application. Frameworks like Selenium, Cypress, and Playwright allow us to simulate what users do on the website – like clicking buttons, filling forms, or navigating pages – and test if everything works as expected.
9. What scripting languages do you know?
Answer:
I have learned basic scripting in Python and Java. I use these languages to write simple programs and understand how to use conditions, loops, and functions. I also tried writing small automation scripts using Java with Selenium. I am open to learning more scripting languages during this internship.
10. Do you have any testing certifications?
Answer:
I have not completed a certification yet, but I am planning to take one soon. I am exploring courses like ISTQB or basic automation testing certifications on platforms like Coursera or Udemy. These certifications will help me understand testing concepts better and prove my skills.
11. Why do you want to join Cornerstone?
Answer:
Cornerstone is a well-known company that builds learning and talent development products. I read about the company’s values and how it supports young talent. This internship is a great chance for me to learn new skills, work with experienced engineers, and grow in the field of software testing. I am excited to be part of such an innovative team.
12. Are you comfortable working from the office in Hyderabad?
Answer:
Yes, I am comfortable working from the Hyderabad office. I understand that this is an office-based role, and I am ready to relocate or travel daily to gain experience and grow professionally.
13. How do you handle mistakes or bugs you find while testing?
Answer:
If I find a bug, I first try to understand the steps that caused it. Then I try to reproduce the issue and check if it happens every time. After that, I report it clearly with screenshots and steps to the developer using a tool like Jira or TestRail. If I make a mistake, I learn from it and make sure I don’t repeat it again. I believe mistakes help us learn and improve.
