Objective of the Scheme
The AICTE Yashasvi Scheme aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020, aiming to improve higher education in India by providing financial assistance to meritorious students. It focuses specifically on students enrolled in core engineering branches like Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Agriculture, and Textile Technology. The scheme encourages students to pursue education in AICTE-approved institutions, helping to fill the gap in technical skills required by industries.
Key Features of the AICTE Yashasvi Scheme
1. Eligibility Criteria:
- Degree/Diploma Students: Students must be admitted to the first year of a Degree or Diploma course in any AICTE-approved institution or the second year through lateral entry.
- Family Income: The annual family income should not exceed ₹8 lakh from all sources.
- Institutions: The course must be pursued at an AICTE-approved institution.
2. Number of Scholarships:
- A total of 5,200 scholarships are available annually—2,593 for degree courses and 2,607 for diploma courses.
3. Amount of Scholarship:
- Degree Level Students: ₹50,000 per annum (maximum of 4 years for first-year students and 3 years for lateral entry students).
- Diploma Level Students: ₹30,000 per annum (maximum of 3 years for first-year students and 2 years for lateral entry students).
4. Mode of Payment:
- The scholarship will be paid via Direct Bank Transfer (DBT) on an annual basis.
5. Selection Criteria:
- Degree Level Students: Selection is based on the merit of the 12th-grade marks, with lateral entry students considered based on the average marks in their diploma semesters.
- Diploma Level Students: Selection is based on the 10th-grade marks.
- In case of ties, the student with the higher marks in the qualifying exam will be prioritized.
6. Application Process:
- Eligible candidates must apply online through the AICTE Scholarship Portal.
- The host institution where the student is enrolled must verify the application.
- AICTE will conduct a final verification of applications.
7. Renewal and Conditions:
- The scholarship is renewable every year based on the student’s academic performance.
- A student failing to progress to the next class will forfeit the scholarship.
- The gap between the qualifying exam and admission should not exceed two years.
Reservation and Distribution
The scheme follows the Government of India norms for reservation. The scholarships are distributed among states and union territories based on the proportionate share of seats in AICTE-approved institutions. A detailed breakdown of the scholarships by state is provided in Annexure-A.
Important Terms and Conditions
- Dropout: If a student drops out, they will not be eligible for further scholarships.
- Branch Change: If a student shifts to a non-core engineering branch, they will lose eligibility and must refund the scholarship amount.
- Financial Assistance from Other Sources: Students receiving other scholarships will not be eligible for the AICTE Yashasvi scholarship.
