Propel Software Developer – Interview Questions & Answers

1. Can you introduce yourself?

Answer:
My name is [Your Name], and I am completing my degree in [Your Specialization] this year. I have a strong interest in software development and good knowledge of programming languages like [mention your strongest language]. I enjoy solving problems and have worked on small projects in [mention technology or project area]. I am eager to learn and grow in a company like Propel, where I can apply my skills and gain real-world experience.

2. Why do you want to join Propel?

Answer:
Propel offers a great opportunity for freshers to start their career with proper training. I like that the company focuses on technology and innovation. The 6-month training period will help me learn the company’s systems and improve my programming skills. I also appreciate that the selection process includes both technical and aptitude tests, which means the company values skill and problem-solving ability.

3. Which programming language are you most comfortable with, and why?

Answer:
I am most comfortable with [C / C++ / Java / C# / JavaScript] because I have practiced it during my projects and college assignments. I understand its syntax well and can write programs for data structures, algorithms, and problem-solving. I also like it because it is widely used in the industry, and learning it deeply will help me in my career.

4. What is OOPS and why is it important?

Answer:
OOPS means Object-Oriented Programming System. It organizes code into objects, which makes it easier to reuse, modify, and maintain. The main concepts are:

  • Encapsulation – hiding data inside classes

  • Inheritance – reusing code from existing classes

  • Polymorphism – using the same code in different ways

  • Abstraction – showing only the important details and hiding the rest

OOPS is important because it helps in creating clean, organized, and reusable code.

5. What are data structures and why do we use them?

Answer:
Data structures are ways to organize and store data so that it can be used efficiently. Examples are arrays, linked lists, stacks, and queues. We use them because they make it faster and easier to store, search, and manage data, especially when working with large amounts of information.

6. Can you explain the difference between C and Java?

Answer:

  • C is a procedural programming language, while Java is an object-oriented programming language.

  • C is compiled into machine code, while Java runs on the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), which makes it platform-independent.

  • C is mostly used for system programming, while Java is often used for application development.

7. How do you approach solving a programming problem?

Answer:
First, I read the problem carefully to understand what is required. Then, I think about possible ways to solve it and choose the most efficient one. I break the solution into smaller steps and start writing the code. After writing, I test the program with different inputs to check if it works correctly. If I find errors, I debug and fix them.

8. Do you know about databases? Can you explain what SQL is?

Answer:
Yes, I have basic knowledge of databases. A database is used to store and manage data. SQL (Structured Query Language) is a language used to interact with databases. We can use SQL to insert, update, delete, and search for data. For example:

sql
SELECT * FROM Students WHERE Marks > 80;

This will show all students who scored more than 80 marks.

9. Tell me about a project or coding task you have done.

Answer:
In my college, I created a [Project Name] using [Technology]. The project’s goal was to [briefly explain goal]. I used [programming language, database, or tools] to build it. This project helped me learn about problem-solving, debugging, and teamwork.

10. How do you handle new technology or tools that you have never used before?

Answer:
I start by reading the documentation and understanding the basics. Then I practice by doing small tasks with the tool or technology. I also watch tutorials or ask experienced people for guidance. I believe in learning by doing, so I try to apply the new skill in a real example.
