Interview Questions and Answers – Reporting & Analytics Analyst at Deloitte (Hyderabad)

1. Can you explain your experience with Excel and how you’ve used it for reporting or analysis?

Excel is one of the key tools I use for organizing and analyzing data. I am comfortable with formulas like VLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH, pivot tables, conditional formatting, and data validation. In past projects, I’ve created dashboards, automated reports using macros, and cleaned raw data using Excel functions. My intermediate Excel skills help me quickly identify trends, generate reports, and summarize insights in a visually appealing manner.

2. Have you worked with data visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau? What did you build?

Yes, I have experience working with both Tableau and Power BI. I’ve built dashboards that visually represent sales data, performance KPIs, and operational trends. In one project, I used Power BI to pull data from Excel and SQL sources, then created interactive visuals to help business users track revenue performance. These tools help convert complex data into meaningful visual stories for stakeholders.

3. How do you ensure the accuracy and quality of the data before reporting?

Ensuring data accuracy is very important. I start by checking for missing or duplicate values, formatting issues, and inconsistent entries. I often use Excel or SQL queries to clean and transform the data. Once cleaned, I cross-check the output with source systems or earlier reports to verify correctness. I also use validation steps like summary checks and test filters to make sure the final report reflects true insights.

4. Can you explain your understanding of tools like Jupiter and SWIFT?

Jupiter and SWIFT are internal tools used by Deloitte for CRM, ERP, and reporting needs. Jupiter provides dashboards and analytics related to sales, revenue, and pipeline data. SWIFT helps track profitability and engagement-level financials. While I haven’t directly used these tools outside Deloitte, I understand their role in reporting and am confident in quickly learning them through hands-on training and documentation.

5. Have you used SQL in your previous roles? If yes, how did it help in analytics?

Yes, I’ve used SQL to extract, filter, and join data from multiple tables in a database. For example, I wrote queries to pull customer sales data for specific time periods and regions, which was then used for performance reports. SQL helps reduce manual effort and ensures data is pulled accurately and efficiently from the source.

6. How do you handle ad-hoc reporting requests from stakeholders or leadership?

When I receive an ad-hoc request, I begin by clearly understanding the purpose of the report and what decision it will support. Then, I identify the data sources and pull relevant data using SQL or Excel. I clean the data, analyze it, and prepare a report using visuals in Power BI or Excel. Finally, I review it with the requester to ensure it meets their expectations and make improvements if needed.

7. Tell us about a time when your report helped a team or stakeholder make a decision.

In my previous internship, I created a report showing trends in customer feedback scores across different product categories. Using visual insights from Power BI, the management team identified which products had consistent negative feedback and took corrective action. My analysis helped prioritize areas for improvement and improve overall customer satisfaction.

8. What does ‘data-driven insights’ mean to you, and why are they important?

Data-driven insights are conclusions and recommendations based on actual data rather than assumptions. They are important because they help organizations make informed decisions, reduce risks, and optimize performance. For example, sales data might show that certain regions perform better in specific quarters, helping the team adjust their strategy accordingly.

9. How do you stay organized when working on multiple reports or projects?

I stay organized by maintaining a to-do list and setting priorities for tasks based on deadlines and importance. I also label my files clearly, use naming conventions, and document steps for repeatability. For ongoing projects, I maintain version history and progress tracking in shared folders or project management tools like Excel or Jira.
