Atlys – Product Design Intern Interview Questions & Answers (Simple English for Beginners)

1. Tell me about yourself.

Answer:
I’m currently a student/recent graduate in [mention your course, e.g., Bachelor of Design, HCI, or related field]. I have a passion for creating simple, user-friendly digital experiences. I’ve worked on small projects using tools like Figma to design apps or websites. I enjoy understanding user problems and turning them into helpful design solutions. I’m always curious to learn new things and improve my skills, and I’m really excited about the opportunity to work with a team like Atlys that is making travel easier for people around the world.

2. Why do you want to work at Atlys?

Answer:
I want to work at Atlys because the company is solving a real-world problem that many people face – making visa applications easier. I love the idea of designing something that helps people travel freely and without stress. The mission of Atlys is inspiring to me. I also think working in a fast-moving startup like this will give me a lot of learning, mentorship, and a chance to actually contribute to something important, even as an intern.

3. What is user-centered design, and why is it important?

Answer:
User-centered design is a method where the focus is always on the people who will use the product. It means you first try to understand what users want, what problems they face, and then you design something that solves those problems in a simple and helpful way. This is important because even if a product looks beautiful, if users don’t understand it or find it hard to use, it won’t be successful. Good design always starts by thinking about the user.

4. Can you walk us through a design project you’ve worked on?

Answer:
Sure. For a personal project, I designed a simple app to help college students manage their study schedule. I started by talking to some classmates to understand their study habits and the problems they faced with time management. I then created wireframes in Figma and tested the flow with a few users. Based on their feedback, I made the interface simpler and added color coding for subjects. This project taught me how important it is to keep testing and improving based on user feedback.

5. What tools do you use for designing?

Answer:
My main design tool is Figma. I use it for everything – from creating wireframes and prototypes to final UI screens. I’ve also tried tools like Adobe XD and a bit of Illustrator for icons and visuals. I’m comfortable collaborating in Figma using shared files and design systems. I’m open to learning any other tools the team at Atlys uses.

6. How do you handle feedback on your designs?

Answer:
I welcome feedback because it helps me see things from a different point of view. Sometimes I get too close to my design and miss out on small issues. When I get feedback, I try to listen carefully, ask questions to understand it better, and then test how those suggestions can improve the design. I don’t take it personally, because I know the goal is to make the best product for the user, not to protect my own ideas.

7. What would you do if users are confused about your design?

Answer:
If users are confused, that means the design needs improvement. I would try to understand exactly what part is confusing by watching users interact with the design, either through usability testing or asking for feedback. Then I would go back, simplify the layout or flow, and test again. I believe testing and iteration are the best ways to make a design better and easier to use.

8. What do you know about the visa process, and how can design help make it better?

Answer:
I know that applying for a visa usually involves filling out many forms, uploading documents, and understanding complicated rules. It can be very confusing and stressful. Design can help by making the process more clear, step-by-step, and removing unnecessary steps. A good design can guide users, show them exactly what to do next, and give confidence that they are doing it right. This can save time and reduce mistakes.

9. How would you start working on a new feature or screen for the Atlys app?

Answer:
First, I would try to understand the purpose of the feature – what problem is it solving and who it is for. Then I would look at any user feedback or data if available. I would sketch ideas on paper or in Figma and think about the user flow. After that, I would create low-fidelity wireframes and review them with the team. Once we agree on a direction, I would move to high-fidelity designs and then test them with users or team members to make sure it’s easy to use.

10. How do you stay updated with new trends or skills in design?

Answer:
I follow design blogs like UX Collective and Smashing Magazine. I also watch YouTube tutorials and follow designers on LinkedIn and Dribbble. I sometimes try small UI challenges to practice new trends or styles. Learning never stops in design, so I try to keep exploring new tools, patterns, and case studies whenever I get time.

11. Have you worked with a developer or product team before? How was the experience?

Answer:
In one of my college projects, I worked with a student who was coding the app I designed. I shared my Figma designs and made sure the handoff was smooth by explaining spacing, colors, and interactions. We also had regular calls to clarify doubts and adjust designs where needed. I learned how important it is to be flexible and think about how the design will actually be built. Good communication between design and development is key.

12. What are wireframes, and why are they useful?

Answer:
Wireframes are simple, black-and-white layouts that show how a screen or feature will be structured. They don’t have colors or detailed visuals but focus on content and layout. Wireframes are useful because they help us think about how the product works before spending time on detailed design. They also help the team give early feedback, saving time and effort later.

13. How do you balance creativity and user needs in your design?

Answer:
Creativity is important, but in product design, the user’s needs come first. I try to be creative in how I solve problems, not just in how things look. For example, using creative ways to simplify a process or organize information better. I always test my designs with users or team members to make sure my ideas are useful, not just stylish. A good design is both helpful and beautiful.

14. What is the most challenging part of being a product designer, especially as an intern?

Answer:
The most challenging part is making sure you truly understand what users need and balancing that with business or tech constraints. As an intern, it can also be a bit overwhelming at first to understand everything quickly. But I believe asking questions, being open to feedback, and learning from the team helps a lot. Every challenge is a chance to improve and grow.
