An IPL Franchise can earn money in 3 ways:

1) Media Rights.
2) Sponsors.
3) Stadium Revenue

Media Rights:

BCCI Collects hefty revenue from the broadcasting rights & online Streaming Apps, & Distributes closes to 40% of the revenue among teams. (5 % of broadcasting rights will be given for each team).

Star India bagged the IPL media rights for TV and digital broadcast worth Rs 16,347.50 crore with a single consolidated bid worldwide.
Additionally Star India should 2,615 crores pay for BCCI Every year. every team will receive Rs.100 CRS through media rights.

In Addition to this IPL Franchise also makes money from telecasting special shows such as KKR’s Knight club, Roar of the Lion, etc.

Sponsors

They’re 2 types of sponsors in IPL

1) IPL Title Sponsors(DLF,Vivo)

2) IPL Franchise Brands

  1. BCCI Collects the money form the sponsors of IPL & Distributes 40% of that among all 8 Teams.

Vivo has retained the Indian Premier League title sponsorship rights for the next five seasons (2018-2022) with a winning bid of INR 2199 crores.

2) Sponsors for each IPL Franchise.

IPL teams individually tie-up with brands to offer visibility to the brands by endorsing their logos on Team Kits, Jerseys, Barricades in the boundaries.

The franchise also makes money from the sales of official Merchandise like jerseys, souvenirs, sports equipment, etc.

Stadium Revenue 

Revenue generated from sales of tickets, hoardings in the stadium, Renting of Food & Beverages stalls, branding, etc.

Prize Money
This is the least source of income compared to other sources.
IPL Winners – Rs.20 crores
Runners up – Rs.12.5 crores
third and fourth – Rs 8.75 crore.
